  • Communion is celebrated weekly in worship. It is open to all believers
  • Diversity of Opinion. Each person is free to determine individual belief guided by the bible, the Holy Spirit, study and prayer. Open discussion of issues is encouraged and a variety of opinions is welcome. We each affirm that Jesus is the Christ and we accept Him as our Lord and Savior
  • Baptism. In baptism the old self-centered life is set aside, and a new life of trust in God is made possible.
  • The Ministry of All Believers. Both ministers and lay persons lead worship, direct service opportunities, and nurture spiritual growth.
  • Freedom of Belief. Disciples are called together around one essential faith, belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Our Vision

In 2006, FCC will celebrate 100 years of ministry to the Corpus Christi community.  In preparation, the congregation adopted the following vision statement that sets the course for what we are to be.

A MINISTRY ALIVE WITH THE SPIRIT OF GOD, DRAWING PEOPLE INTO FELLOWSHIP, SPIRITUAL GROWTH AND SERVICE.

Joyful involvement by all. Our worship overflows with joy as we renew ourselves for service to God

It is alive with music and the presence of the Holy Spirit. People feel touched and healed by their presence in it . Everyone finds a place to be involved.

Stewardship is also joyful as the people of First Christian Church in the giving of our time, talents, and resources. We celebrate God's faithfulness to equip and empower us to do that which is well beyond our capabilities. Gratitude and gratefulness characterize all we do, touching every aspect of our life together.

People are drawn to First Christian Church as a joyful and meaningful place to be. Our sanctuary, classrooms and retreats are full of enthusiastic people. Membership and participation is abundant.

MINISTRY

OUR INSPIRED LEADERSHIP ENCOURAGES, TEACHES AND GUIDES OUR CONGREGATION TO KNOW, CELEBRATE, AND SHARE GOD'S GRACE AND LOVE.

Chc5.jpg (133997 bytes)We proclaim the Gospel in new and creative ways to all in our community. Our ministry is a spontaneous, natural part of who we are. We minister with love to one another - weeping with those who weep and rejoicing with those who rejoice. We give special care to the elderly, the young and those with special needs.
We reach out to our greater world in many ways. Prayer is a vibrant and meaningful part of our ministry. Our ministry is characterized not only by the giving of our financial resources, but more significantly by our actions in everyday discipleship.
The laity of First Christian Church works with the ministers to provide strong direction and guidance. Our ministers and lay leaders are inspirational and nurturing. Leadership development is an ongoing process, an integral part of our program for the spiritual growth for children, youth and adults.
Music is woven into the fabric of our ministry, from worship to fellowship. Our bell tower peals forth the good news regularly, signaling to all the presence of the Holy Spirit at First Christian Church.

FELLOWSHIP IN CHRIST

WE ARE ONE FAMILY IN THIS CHURCH, AND FIND STRENGTH AND SUPPORT FOR OUR PERSONAL AND SHARED MISSIONS IN LIFE HERE.

Through relationships at First Christian Church lives are transformed, people are nurtured, leaders are developed, and people find Jesus as Lord. Our church family is a community of all ages, backgrounds, and cultures. Throughout this family, there exists a unity and wholeness with all finding love and acceptance. The doors of our church and of our hearts are open.
Our youth are an active and important part of our fellowship in Christ. They participate in all aspects of our church life, finding friendship and encouragement. Our activity center provides a special place for youth and families. Our programs, activities and Christian education provide an environment for growth and stability.

SPIRITUAL GROWTH

WE USE OUR RESOURCES TO LIFT UP THE HEARTS AND SOULS OF OUR CONGREGATION AND OUR COMMUNITY.
chdpatio.jpg (25354 bytes)

We place high importance on our personal and congregational spiritual growth, cultivating the message of the Gospel and the sense of the Holy Spirit within all. There are programs for both seekers and believers. Using the Bible for spiritual guidance, study is an integral part of our ministry

Pictured is the old church on Broadway.    In 1967, when our new set of Chdold.jpg (9997 bytes) buildings were built, our congregation voted unanimously to serve our community with the buildings.  The facilities at First Christian Church are well maintained, provide physical resources for our church and our community activities, enhance the beauty of our neighborhood, and beckon a warm welcome to visitors.
